Fuel Cells Have Arrived
Prof. Aldo daRosa
STAR Lab, Stanford University
In 1839, during the very infancy of the automobile, William Groves invented the fuel cell. One hundred and sixty years later, fuel cells are poised to replace not only the internal combustion engine in automobiles, but, also, to change the production of electricity, by popularizing distributed generation with the advantages of avoiding transmission lines, providing increasing flexibility and much larger efficiencies.
We will discuss, albeit superficially, the technological, political and economic factors driving the new Era of the fuel cell.
